Why is the ocean salty?

Rainwater is slightly acidic because it absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. As it falls on land, it slowly erodes rocks, dissolving mineral salts into ions like chloride and sodium. Rivers transport these minerals to the sea, where water evaporates into rain clouds, leaving the salts behind.
